The programme is selected but the drum won't spin — what's causing the malfunction?
There are essentially two possible reasons: a broken drive belt (which would be the less serious problem, as it is easily replaced), or the motor.
In this case, we recommend inspecting the machine to identify the type of motor fitted: brushed, inverter, or start capacitor — just to name a few examples.
The start capacitor type applies to much older machines, with over 10 years of service.
If the motor is working, the issue is more likely to be the carbon brushes.
In rarer cases, the problem could also be caused by the control board.
In short: first check the motor, then the brushes, and if everything checks out, the suspicion falls on the electronic control board.
According to Archimede Lab data, "drum not spinning" is the eighth most reported washing machine fault at 5.5% of interventions (11,568 out of 299,013 cases).
