What does the E1 error code mean on a dishwasher?

Engineer's advice

This type of alert is quite common when a dishwasher malfunctions.

It appears when the drain pump is blocked.

The causes can be varied: a foreign object preventing the natural flow of water, or an actual breakage of the drain pump. This is a fairly rare occurrence, but it does happen.

These conditions cause the machine to trigger the alarm.

On models without a display showing error codes, you need to watch the LED indicator lights, which signal the fault through a series of flashes — a kind of Morse code from the appliance.

With a bit of DIY confidence, you can remove the filter grille and inspect the impeller. However, we would always recommend calling a professional engineer.

Two recommendations: before loading dishes into the dishwasher, it is good practice to give them a quick rinse under the tap to remove food residue that could be harmful to the machine — cherry stones, olive pits, small chicken bones and the like.

The second tip is about the filter. Keep it clean and check from time to time that it is not clogged or dirty. Grease deposits that build up over time are not uncommon, forming blockages that cause problems for the machine.

Remember: proper maintenance of an appliance ensures greater efficiency and lower energy consumption.
