This is most likely a thermocouple problem. The thermocouple is a safety sensor on the hob that blocks the gas supply when it detects an anomaly.
Like any component, it can fail and prevent the thermocouple from working correctly.
However, the issue could also be a faulty gas tap mechanism. These cases are less common, but they do happen.
In any case, we recommend calling a professional — you should never take risks with gas.
