There's a problem with the fridge door seal — what can I do?

Engineer's advice

This is not as trivial a problem as you might think. In fact, it requires careful consideration. On budget fridges, where the seal is heat-welded, a faulty gasket means one thing: the entire door needs to be removed and replaced.

In that case, it is probably more cost-effective to replace the appliance altogether.

On higher-end fridges, however, by taking the correct measurements for your model and with a bit of DIY skill, you can replace the seal fairly easily.

According to Archimede Lab data, "door seal" accounts for 2.8% of fridge interventions. On Liebherr the rate reaches 6%, likely reflecting the higher attention premium model owners pay to seal integrity.
